Starting issue
New here so please bear with me.
Havent searched past posts so here goes. 2000 Silverado 4.8 Starts, revs to 1000 then dies. Subsequent attempts result in just cranking but no sign of fire. Next day same thing. Acts like a passlock problem but security light does not show. Pulled code PO446 (Vent circut malfunction) Would this prevent starting, and if so what is cure? Any clues? Thanks KH |
RE: Starting issue
no..the vent code is for the evap system..it sure sounds like passlock...no codes in the bcm?..thats where the passlock code will be...not in the pcm where that 446 was

RE: Starting issue
Thanks. I am new to the electronic aspect of todays trucks. Where is BCM located and does the OBD scanner work there as well?
Great info. I have been searching forums for days and going into the BCM was never mentioned anywhere I have been. KH |
RE: Starting issue
Maybe all the 4.8's are getting ready to revolt??

RE: Starting issue
lol thats what it sounds like to me quick02

RE: Starting issue
Watch one day everyone with a 4.8 is going to go outside and get a nasty suprise. This is what happens when you put computers on engines :p

RE: Starting issue
I imagine only a gm tech2 (4 grand) will talk to things like the bcm...radio,etc...most cheapie scanners only talk to the pcm...which is not that important a module nowdays, comparitively speaking.
the bcm is under the steering column....but i thinkl your problem is most likely caused by the passlock sensor in the column....but it needs to be checked first |
RE: Starting issue
Thanks to all. Yes computers in a truck is something I could have lived without, along with power windows , doorlocks etc.
Think my local mechanic can handle this or do I have to take out a loan and go to dealer? Tons of miles on this truck:160,000 but looks great. Just bought 4 weeks ago. I was confident in the engine lasting a lot longer as I only drive about 6000 per year, but computer related problems never entered my mind. KH |
RE: Starting issue
Lessee..pay the dealer to fix it..or go to some assclown who tosses a fuel pump, pcm, bcm, and junkyard column at it and then says.."its something the dealer will have to do"...
which would I choose...hmmm ya get what ya pay for |
RE: Starting issue
I think I will heed your advise, To the dealer it goes.
Thanks. KH |
