Steering box issues

I've just learned that there has been an inherent problem with the GM steering box. This problem has gone on for years without a resolution by GM. I know it exists in gas engine GM models, both cars and trucks. But I wondered if anyone has heard of this steering box issue in trucks with the Duramax diesel. I wondered if the added weight of the diesel engine requires a different steering setup. I can't describe the problem other than to say it sounds like metal on metal in very sharp turns - at least that's the way it's been described to me.

RE: Steering box issues

Ya'll may be interested to hear that I talked to my local GM dealer today and he confirmed that there is a problem with the steering box. It's not a big deal. But it is the result of the lubricant drying up. He said that whether the problem crops up depends on many things one being where you drive the truck. He said that if one were to spend time in Arizona and the truck is exposed to the Arizona heat, there will likely be a problem. But he also said it's a quick fix with a section of the steering mechanism being re-greased. So I made an offer on a new 2006 GMC. Wish me luck.
