Steering Damper Removal...?

Has anybody tried to take the stock steering damper off their truck? I mean off a truck like mine described in my signature block?

Time to resurface this old thread.

I attempted to remove the stock steering damper/stabilizer on my 1998 K2500 today. Man, that friggin' tapered pin mount on the passenger side end of damper shock is SEIZED in there!!

What is the secret in popping that pin out to replace with with a new one? I'm trying to install a Rancho RS5000 damper kit [stock replacement] and it isn't going exactly as smooth as planned.

I've removed the cotter pin & castle nut on the top side, cleaned the pin area up as best as I can and soaked the crap out of it with WD40, then waited. After a good soaking I tried to turn the hex nut on the bottom side of the pin to break it free. No luck. Tried tapping the pin out from above with a long steel pipe & 4lb hammer. No luck. Tried prying the pin out from the bottom with an assortment of pry bars. It's still in there.

Aside from cutting it out with a specialty torch, what else should I try before giving my mechanic a call? Is there some kind of specialty GM puller tool for this pin removal? Useful advise appreciated. Step by step procedure even more helpful. Pics would be cherry on the cake. Thanks in advance.
