Default Steering Radius

I own a 1995 Silverado 1500 p/u and it has always had a very limited steering radius making parking a bit of a challenge. I have been told it was limited from the factory to comply with the tow package requirements. (??)

I am currently preparing the truck for my 16 y/o son to drive and would like to free up the steering radius restriction. I worry about him parking the car at his High School in a very tight parking lot.

Can this be done? Are there adjustments that can be made? Kits?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Only thing I can think of is change out the gear box. Butanyone on here with that same truck would be able to tell you if it is common for those year model trucks.
