Steering wheel noise
 

I know this is a problem with the new GM truck vehicles (2001-?) but what can be done to get rid of the noise and bump from the steering wheel. I heard that GM has about 35 fixes out that doesn't cure it, can any of you tell me what you have done to get rid of this problem. My truck is a 2005 Duramax equiped Dually 3500 crew cab 4X4. thanks

Supposedly GM has a replacement intermediate shaft that solves the problem. I personally just repack the grease in both of my trucks every 15,000 miles or when I start hearing the knock knock knock. It is very easy and I can now do one in about 30 minutes. If you are interested in doing it yourself I can walk you through it. You just need a 3/4 inch rubber cap, a hose clamp to fit the cap, and some grease. It's just one of those things we put up with to drive our favorite truck. Good Luck either way!

I had a reply from another forum and they are saying to just install at zerk fitting and grease it at each oil change 3000 miles for me.

I took mine into the local Chevy dealer and asked about a secret warranty and he said there was no such thing, I then told him I worked at a GMC/Pontiac dealership for 10 years and we had secret warranties, after hearing that he said there was something he could do for me and they replaced it for free under a program asking GM for help and now my truck with only 24,000 miles makes no more noise, keeping my fingers and legs crossed.
