Default Stereo Question

I still have the factory stereo installed, but the guy I bought the truck from had the XM Sattelite unit put in also. I just had the XM activated, but cant get it to work in the truck. I have been trying to get the stereo to go into AUX mode, just like you would do if it had a changer in it, but I cant get it to go. Anyone know how to get it to go into AUX mode? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you already bought the XM tuner then you just need a stereo that will plug into it and index the XM stations. Otherwise you can get a after market stereo that has an XM tuner built in. (Mines an Alpine XM system around $300 which isn't bad considering the cost of the tuner and stereo separately). Hows yous set up now?

It is just the factory stereo with a Delphi XM unit that is mounted to the dash. The XM works great in my house, but when I turn it on in the truck there is no sound emmited. I am thinking I just need to get the stereo to go into AUX mode. I pushed the AUX button but nothing happened. Going to check the wiring soon, just wanted to make sure I was not missing something on getting the stereo into AUX mode.

You sure it plays thru the AUX and not thru a radio signal? Did you install it yourself?
Some kits play thru a low bandwidth channel to get the sound to come out of the stereo. You tune radio to the channel specified and the XM is heard.

It might actually play through a low bandwidth station, you are right.I did not install it, it was installed from the previous owner. I will try the low bandwidth station today.

Thanks

Default RE: Stereo Question

Be more specific. What model XM radio is it? SkyFi3, etc...?

Is the XM radio wired to the factory stereo properly? If there is an AUX button on the factory GM radio that means there IS a port for an accessory to be plugged into it (such as CD changer, XM radio, iPod, etc..). The correct wire and/or adapter will be required to do this. I recommend removing the stereo and looking at the back of it to be sure. There will be a wiring harness and an antenna hookup on your factory radio. If there is anything else plugged up, then it must be your XM radio. Now, go into the menu on your XM radio and look for something called Line out or Audio Level or FM level or something like that. That menu will have an option to send the XM radio's sound via the FM modulator, or the Line-in (direct wire hookup). You are going to want to set it all the way towards the Line-in option, not FM modulator.

Also, make sure your antenna is hooked up right and that it has a clear view of the sky (on top of the truck). Often times it will not work sitting on the dash.

If you still cant hear anything with the direct hookup, i suggest you just listen to it through the FM modulator that is built into the XM radio. First, find a dead FM radio station on your stereo that has little or no sound broadcasting over it. then, Go into your settings menu on your XM radio and look for something called FM Frequency. Select the same frequency that you set your truck stereo to. Then, go back to the Audio Level option I mentioned previously and set it all the way towards FM, instead of the Line out. If you can't hear the radio repeat the tuning process and find a better (clearer) FM radio station.

If you still can't hear your XM radio after doing all of this and you know your wires are hooked up correctly, either something is broken or the volume is turned down.
