Tapping noise 05 Seirra
 

I have a fairly loud tapping noise only on a cold start up, I also noticed an unuasual amount of white smoke upon start up, but quickly goes away. The tapping noise also goes away after driving for about 5 minutes. The dealership wants big bucks to tear into the motor. They said they suspect a head problem or lifters. I only have 56K miles on the truck, change the oil every 5k miles,and drive it easily. Of course my warranty is expired, but I thought it may be covered under federal emmisions warranty. They said it's not. Can anyone give me suggestions ot other optionsbefore letting them tear into the motor?

Trade it in on a new one with a big discount and 72 month 0% financing. You win if you need a truck. Of course who knows what the trade in will be.
