TBI intake on vortec heads?
 

im thinkin about doing a crate motor in my truck http://www.jegs.com/p/GM+Performance...10002/-1/10763
this one to be exact and i want to know if my tbi intake will mount up to it, i dont want to switch everything around on it.

I think it would work are you going to use a stock intake. You should realy look around if you want to do a swap you should do it with a LS based engine. Like the LS6 or th 6.0

Just about any small block Chevy can be converted to TBI, BUT not using the stock intake. Look for a TBI intake for Vortec heads. Jegs, Summit, JCWhitny all have them. The stock TBI intake and heads are restrictive. The aftermarket TBI intake (for Vortec heads) will match the bigger size and shape of the Vortec intake runners perfectly.

This intake will work perfect with the engine you are looking at.
You'll be happy with this setup. If you plan on using all the stock TBI components including the throttle body you can go to TBIchips.com and he will hook you up with a chip that will give you the added spark advance and fuel delivery you will need. I suggest an aftermarket (Eldelbrock maybe) throttle body to give you more power out of that 350 HO. I did this type of setup on my 91 GMC. If you need help you can PM me.

Thanks,The guy on TBIChips.com seem to know what he was doing as i read through it, i have the JET stange 2 on it now and i noticed it did something for it. i think i put a pretty good beat down on my motor with that flame thrower kit and now i have a valve that isnt seating right so i figured its time for a crate motor. were you satisfied with the setup on your truck, mine isnt to bad of a slug now as it is, i understand it wont run 10's on this idea but i want it to have a pair when i stomp on it. I did get it to chirp 2nd on 33's the other day but i've got my tranny built up rediculously.

1991 GMC Sierra 5.0 stock:

* 12-14 city
* 15 or so on the highway
* Downshifted alot, never could burn the tires off, couldn't beat anything off the line.

MODS: GM Vortec heads (from a 94 5.7 I believe), Edelbrock TBI intake, MSD ignition system, polished TBI unit (did it myself), K&N 14" X 3" open air filter with velocity stack, generic Helix style TBS, mandrel bent 2.5" "Y" pipe, 2.5" universal CAT, single 3" cat back exhaust with (a good) glasspack, TBI.com stage I chip updated for my modifications, 33" BFG ATs.

On 93 octane:

* 16 city (going easy)
* 18 highway
* I bet I was getting 210-220 at the wheels. Stock was probably 170 tops. (Rated 200 at the crank stock).

The damn thing came alive, especially after the chip. I am still kinda sore that I traded it. My 99 would crush it now but the 91 ran so damn good for its age and mileage. And it never gave me any real problems.

the vortec heads are really great. had used them in my car last winter and got a 30-35 hp increase in power without changing cams or other stuff.

Yeah cuz they are compressing the mixture 9.5:1. So using 91 octane gasoline will help burn better.
