TBS

Just a quick question. Has anyone heard of a TBS by Crane Cams? I got it for under $50 shipping and all. It does not havea twist design, but triangle cuts all the way around the bore. We just installed one on my father's Chevy Avalanche. Right now we are checking MPG. To me it seems like it gave it a bit more throttle considering it is stock stock vehicle. The only other mods are the free mods, just not all of them.

RE: TBS

Threaded = low to mid range (RPM) gains anf MPG

Smooth bore = mid to high end gains and a little less MPG

I had a threaded on my 91 and a smooth on my 99. The 91 would pull hills and cruise better than before (slightly) with an overall slight gain in MPG (city and highway), the smooth bore gave my 99 some more top end umph with the biggest MPGgain seen in highway cruising.

Gain usually didn't exceed 1 MPG and did more for the older engine than the newer.

It will have a nice whistle to it...

RE: TBS

You know everyone keeps mentioning a whistle and I am not disagreeing with it; however, the one I installed only whistles right as you just go to accelerate. And it is so brief you have to be listening for it. The TBS I ordered does not have a twist in it. It has triangle cuts all the way around the bore. According to my dad it is a way to force air into the intake. The triangles start out large and go to a point facing into the intake. Like I said just a slight whistle. And only just as you start to accelerate.

My motor's running lean and i think the TBS is to blame for it, i think itm gonna take it off

mine whistles too but my trucks exhaust is so damn loud that you can barely hear it...not too take anythign away from the tbs but my exhaust totally drones it out unless you listen for it

RE: TBS

a tbs shouldnt affect your fuel/air ratio

RE: TBS

It gets back to the tuning thing. On the Vortec motors you can only throw a K&N filter and dual exhaust on the truck, after that (CAI, headers, TBS) it will run lean. Then you need a tune.

FYI: Not so happy with Predator right now because a I have a "Low" spot on my fuel trims (between 1,800 and 2,200 rpm) which it will not allow me to adjust. [:@] It just goes like hell, hits the spot briefly where it levels out and then picks right back up. Its very slight but its there.
