All the above can increase your horsepower and fuel mileage is an iffy. I have had good luck with all the ones I have used in the past. On my 90 5.7 I had a Hypertech Thermomaster with a 160 degree T-stat. My 04 5.3 I have used both the Hypertech and the Superchips Flash Paq. Both increased my horsepower and my mileage went up too. My Superchips seems to have down the most though. However your driving style will depend on your MPG. I have my Superchips up for sale. If interested send me a PM.

the edge programer in the best on the market and offers you TONS of options fromtt setting to economy to performance to shift points and so so and so on...it take 5 mns to install and looks awesome in the on dash pod. I have had them all and this one ROCKS.

I have a Nelson Tune (http://www.nelsonperformance.com/)on my 2006 5.3. both mpg's and power have gotten better. I haven't bothered to measure either, but I can certainly say that if I keep my foot out of it I stop less often at the gas station.

Your only looking, correct, which means that you do not own a 5.3.

If you buy a 5.3 you will find that it gets really good fuel economy for a Truck and do not be persuaded into a V6, before everyone get their shorts into an uproar their is nothing wrong with the V6. But ask yourself why buy a V6 when the 5.3 is such a good engine that get provides so many more options as truck engine?

So if you do get the truck you have your eye on a programmer can add some benefits but they are not the Holly Grail to fuel economy, if they were every truck from Detroit or Canada or Mexico, would already come preprogrammed from the factory.

And yes I run a Superchip programmer in my 5.3 and I get 18 to 19+ commuiting to work and 21 to 22 on the road, 11.5 to 12+ pulling my 6600 lb. trailer.

So Stop looking and buy the truck, it's not an economy car it's a truck that will probably do most of the things if not all the things you are considering a truck for.

Good Luck
