I just bought a 2001 2500HD 4x4 and I had to drive it back home from texas...on the way home I averaged between 17 and 18mpg, and now that it's home around town I average between 10.5 and 11.5mpg.

But also keep in mind that I'm 18 years old so you might get better gas mileage...

Hey I just got a new 2006 2500HD Ext. 6.0 / 4.11 rear. I love the truck, stepping up from a 2003 1500 Z-71. 5300 Vortex. I am getting 12 mpg in the city. You have to run 93 octane. Thats the bad part. no other complaints as of yet.

It will tow all you want, but if gas is a factor ask yourself if you realy need the 2500hd. You will never see 20 MPG without major mods. It will be more like 10-15 empty and its worse hauling. I love mine, but Iam going to put in a secondary trany to help out on the high end.
