Default Tire size question

So I drive a '91 2wd 1500 and have been shopping for used wheels/boots. I'm a broke musician who can't afford new parts and used market for this truck is pretty limited in Vancouver

I'm running the standard size 235/75/15 on 15x7 rims

What would be the harm in running 17" rims with 245/45/17 tires?

Or is this just a totally stupid idea altogether?

Thanks

or i would even try to find a set of used 265 75 16s they will most definantly fit your truck i had them on all the trucks i owned except the 94 i got know i got 31 10.50 r 15s and i hate them but they still ahve 40-50% tread left

I have 245/45/17s on the front and 275/40/17s on the rear. They are expensive to replace and my speedometer runs about 5 mph fast.

Haha I was looking up pricing for those tires... you're right, they're pretty darn expensive.

I found a set of the 265s... I'm hoping buddy gets back to me...

Thanks guys for the help and @cubpak89 for the link, this site is rad!

I have 255/70/R16 on stock rims on my 2000 Silverado 1500 LS, and 255/70/R17 on my 2008 Sierra 1500 SLE on stock rims.

No issues with either, and they don't even come close to having a fitment issue.

I have 265/70/17 on my '08. I understand that 285 will fit with a leveling kit, which I plan on when I have to replace this set of tires.

@Razoo newer silverados have 6 bolt right?

used 16s and 17s are easy to find here.. I found a 90% set of stock tires in sweet condit for 200... got lucky there. Can't even find a set of stock rims at a pick a part here

Do you want to stay with stock wheels? Steelies or Aluminum?

Found some 15" steelies too! Lucky me :P

Had some old aluminums for an 81 camaro... not a huge fan of those specifically, but really, I know nothing of the aluminum world.
