tool box and bed rails

alright guys ive never seen this done before but heres how the idea came... my 02 sierra had bed rails on it when i bought it, i really liked the style of the bed rails but this coming winter i need somewhere to put stuff undercover without putting it in the truck (as i run a motorsports shop), so i had a brand new aluminum diamondplate craftsman toolbox given to me by my dad. so therefor i removed the bed rails to swap in the box. heres my idea... do u guys think it would be a good idea to cut the bed rails at the length i need and bolt 1 end thru the backside of the toolbox and the back side of the bedrail into the stock location? almost as the bedrail comes out of the toolbox idea? if i decide to try this i figure ill make a plate to fit inside the bedrail thats threaded, but does anyone have an idea on how i could mount the plate inside the bedrail tube without welding and turning it purple and distorted? any help or thoughts on this would be awesome.... thanks guys!

I would just use some 3M contact spray. As it only needs to be held in place to spin the bolt in or out. Once you tighten it down then the bolt is its brace. But just some kind of glue so you dont have to make it permanent. Epoxy would be too much though.

alright guys, me and my dad attempted it today and actually i am very pleased with how they came out... i cut the bedrails to the length i needed them and took a piece of 1/2" plate i had layin around and found a holesaw that made it just a hair bigger than the id of the bedrail, i then ground it down to the right size and threaded a hole in the middle of the plate... then i jbwelded it inside the bedrail... i was hesitant on jbweld but figured even if the weld didnt hold, the bedrail would not slide backward enough to come off the 1/2" plate... it looks as though it was something that was bought that way... ill post a couple pics later...

I've got that identical toolbox but I've got to say, I really commend your craftsmanship haha good pun right??

Anyways, my suggestion to you: PEEL THAT GIANT UGLY CRAPSMAN LOGO OFF! I did it and stuck a Titleist bumper sticker on just because I was too lazy to get all the glue off, it looks much more proffessional

yeah im gonna wrap it in black vinyl and put somethin in chrome there... since i do have access to a vinyl cutter and all...

That looks nice actually. I've been wanting to have truck tool boxes on my ride but I'm still not good at mounting this and that.. And yeah I agree with him that you take the sticker out.. It'll look very neat..
