Torsion bars
 

I read someone elses post and just remembered something I wanted to ask. Any reason why my 99's torsion bars are cranked up all the way from the factory and my 91' was only half-way? They are both stock torsion settings. Im just kinda ticked cause I wanted to level out my 99 but the front end is already maxed.

probably so you can't turn them up anymore and tear stuff up... i can imagine lots of people have turned up torsion bars too far, screwed something up ,and turned them back down before they took it in to the dealership

Blah. The worst part is I found a torsion key set that will lift it 2 inches but it is $300. Looks like Im saving my pennys and getting a real lift.

my 99 z 71 had a lot of room to crank them up...

I just wanted to put some bigger tires on it and give it a better stance. But looks like I have to spend a little to get what I want. Someone told me about a 4" suspension lift for my truck saying it was a good lift without sacrificing too much ride quality. BlackHorse ,old or new bodystyle truck?

Nevermind, I read your description. Maybe because it was a Z71?

I looked at my torsion bars the other day when my truck was on lift and I noticed one is maxed out and other is only half cranked. It was like this when I bought it used at 60k miles. Now i have been looking harder at it from a distance and it seems like one side is sitting higher than the other slightly. Why would the previous owner do this? Is there any reason one torsion bar should Ever be cranked more than the other???

Also, what are the downsides to driving with your torsion bars raised all the way? Longterm damage/wear??

i think it casued my shocks to break sooner than expected, but then again it had 190,000 when they let go

If the torsion bars are all the way up, it wears out bearings, shocks, etc, as they are at a hard angle and have little room to give.
