Towing Advice
 

Hi,

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L and the 4.10 rear with 200K Kms (125K Miles) on it. I just recently started to pull a 6000 lbs travel trailer and am wondering if and where should I spend some money to help with the towing. I tow a lot into the mountains and always into a terrible headwind getting there. I guess I'd also like to know if it's wise to spend money to help performance on a engine with 200K kms on it already.

Any and all thoughts and feedback appreciated.

the first thing that comes to mind is trailer brakes especially in the mountains!!!!!!!.....performance wise I cant help too much Im and older generation truckie I love my 5.7 so I dont know alot about the 5.3 but I would say some moderate performance upgrades would be fine...a tune comes to mind first

As far as performance while towing there is much that you can really do to give you anything noticable. You can do some horse power mods that will help a little but pretty much your towing will be the same.

That is unless you go for much more horse power.

I guess it's like a buddy of mine said today while talking about it... "There's no replacement for displacement"... Maybe it's a good time to buy one of those new fangled 2500HDs for my towing needs... ;)

Get a Diesel if you want to tow and not worry about power... oh yeah and a tune!

Nothing like a good DMax!! All I can say is 660 lb-ft of torque FROM THE FACTORY!!!

Ive never been much of a DMAX, Powerstroke (Powderstroke) or Cummins fan I wish someone would put a small CAT in a Chevy then I would be happy.....just my opinion
