Trailer Hitch and Wiring

Hello Again Everyone, I need some help with my 2002 Silverado 1500 Short Bed Ext Cab again. It came WITHOUT the tow package, and I now want a round tube(OE look) receiver hitch and MOST importantly a "PLUG IN" trailer wiring connector, preferably 7pin(Again like OE) and I'll get a 7pin toflat 4pin adapter. I have called the Uhaul type places in my area, but they claim to NOT list a plug in trailer connector for this truck, just the splice type, which I absolutely Won't use, I have repaired dozens and dozens of those trouble some corrosion promoting pieces of crap over the years for people. The dealer lists a "Kit", but I'd have to sell the truck to be able to afford it.Any suggestions?

you should just need a factory hitch from the dealer..the wiring is already under there above the spare..it should be around 250'ish,and bolt on in 5 minutes

try another dealer...they may be pricing a kit that includes a tranny cooler

Did I get you right, there is trailer wiring on all of these Silverados, even without the Tow package? Is it a 7pin connector or a flat 4pin?

RE: Trailer Hitch and Wiring

I would think that Hoppys would make a "T" connector that will plug right into the existing wiring harness. You unplug your existing harness, like Argon said, it should be under the spare. The wiring is there, the plug, you will get with the "T" connector. You can get the 4 wire flat, 5 wire flat (surge brakes), and i'm assuming the 7 wire round, but if not, they sell an adapter that goes from 4 or 5 wire flat to 7 wire round, for about $20.00 @ YES, Uhaul, or your local Walmart or any autoparts store (Napa,Autozone,Pepboys, Advanced auto etc.)

RE: Trailer Hitch and Wiring

no connector at all..just the wiring..however..
some yearsd (i'm thinking like 99 or older) had just wires..hopefully,yours has a plug on the end that would plug into a factory connector (the kind thats made on the hitch)...so if u buy a factory hitch, which includes a 7 pin connector with the flap door, your wiring may just plug right into the back of that.
