Default tranny swap?

i am dropping in a new 350 in afew months, and i was thinking about getting a better tranny. well, kinda better for my situation. i have a TH400 but i dont really NEED it. im driving 50+ miles a day to and from school, plus around town. i was thinking about swapping for a 700R4. it would be nice to have overdrive. i live in memphis, but i would like to travel this summer back home to new york without spending $5000 on gas....

so is a tranny swap worth the few hundred to get overdrive? or is the TH400 a keeper?

My bud got overdrive from the dealer for 150 bucks not sure if you can. But a 700r4 is a good trans ive had a few of them. Id say if you can get it cheap and you can do it youre self than go for it.

Id say none those trans came in Vetts, Camaros and firebirds. Thats what ive had them in put a Vett servo in it and a shift kit. Youll be happy trust me.

well i like the idea of the TH400 because its one of the best and most durable, and it pulls great off the line. but its not helping with my gas situation. my truck is 2wd. im not offroading. its got rims and is going to be lowered. nothing spectacular going on. im just looking out for gas milage. and a 700R4 will get me better gas milage.

700r4's are awsome and very easy to find, every astro van had them. The V6 4.3 model is the same as the V8 one. Ive heard that the late 80's ones are better then the early 80's ones. you will just have to run a kick down cable, I think that the 400 used a electronic kick down.
