Default Trans flush

my trans has 142000 miles on it.

i wanted to change the fluid with synthetic and add lucas trans stuff to it.

but i heard that changing fluid on a higher mileage trans causes it to fail sooner?

also anyone know how much quarts it takes too?

Changing the fluid shouldn't hurt it, it's an actual trans flush that you want to be careful about. As the parts wear, some of the grooves, scratches and such get filled in with fluid and the fine metal shavings. When you flush everything out, you lose that and fluid blows past seals and everything else. A good friend of mine (dang good trans builder) is the one who clued me in. He talkef about people who would insist on a flush and their car wouldn't back out of the bay afterwards.

Drain and magnet yes. The lucas additive is a good choice, I'd recommend their diff lube in the rearend or Redline.

Lucas has a new oil out. It's a conventional oil with all the wear protection of a full synthetic for higher mileage engines, good shtuff and cheaper too.
