Default Trans?? Gauge Cluster?? HELP!

Okay, having a problem with my truck and don't know what it is. First off, its a '01 2500HD with 6.0L. It has 117,000 miles and it is still on the original trans.

This started about a week ago, it happens very random and without any warning signs. I'll be cruising along or coming to a stop and all my gauges go to nothing. The car is still running but I'm unable to accelerate. A couple of seconds later they all pop back into their normal spots and the gauges look like they just turned on(fasten seat belt light, air bag light, etc.). Then when I go to accelerate it shifts really hard into 2nd gear and then it won't shift any higher than that. At 40mph by rpms are at 3500. If I pull over turn the car off and then turn it on it drives like nothing ever happened to it! It'll go through all the gears fine and then this will all happen a few days later. Its starting to happen with a little more frequency though now.

Anyone ever heard of this or have experience with a problem like this??? Please help??? Thanks a ton!!

Dan

Might be your ignition switch. This switch also powers the transmission's electricals and will go into limp mode when it's supply goes down. Meaning it will only work in 2nd and 3rd.

Thanks for the reply! I'll have to look into that. I found one online for $78 so I guess I can start there.

It happened a couple of times again today while I was driving.
