Trans temperature gauge
 

I want to add a trans temperature gauge to my 97 GMC. I tow my 5th wheel with it (5000#) It has the 4L60e trans. I have read to put the sender in the pressure test port above the shift linkage. Others say to weld a bung in the pan. Opinions on this?

This might help. There is a temp sensor in the tranny.

Is your trans temp gauge a wet gauge or an electronic gauge?

Havent bought one yet Glenn, but it will be electric...Probably an Autometer. Checking at work (NAPA) tomorrow to see what we can get

OK, heres the deal...I installed an Autometer tranny gauge in my truck this morning....Its about 35-40 degrees around here, winters coming...Went into town to run a few errands. Temp on gauge went to about 125F, that was about it. Ran a total of about 10 miles. Is this normal for this time of year?..How long should it take to get up to operating temp this time of year, or is this the normal temp for this time of year?

As I understand the operating temperatures of the 4L60-E and 4L65-E is anything 100 degrees over the ambient temperature is normal. 200F Caution, 220F and up is Danger, and 260F "it's too late, call a tow truck"
