Transmission won't transfer power
I have a Silverado with 185 K miles. When I'm driving at 55 or 60 and put the peddle to the metal to pass, the engine revs up, but the speed stays the same. The transmission does not shift down either. I've changed filter and fluid regularly. IS IT TIME FOR A NEW TRANS?? or is there something that is not working in the tranny causing it not to shift down and pick up speed. I tried manually down shifting but still no transfer of power. HELP!!

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
it could be the tranny is slipping, or it could be a number of things. Has the truck thrown any codes?

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
NO codes, that's what bothers me.

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
I agree, your tranny is probably slipping. Does the fluid smell burnt?

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
Also check the level of the fluid, but sounds like tranny time.

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
Fluid's good, no burn color or smell. I guess it's new tranny time. Thanks for the help.

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
You might check on the rebuild price, where do you live? Most places will charge less if you pull the tranny yourself and you can have them make it better when they rebuild it with vett or billit servos and a shift kit, might as well they are already there.

RE: Transmission won't transfer power
I'm in Port Charlotte Fl. I've pulled engines and tranny when I was younger, but since my 60th birthday, It's kind of hard on these old bones. I do have a shop manual and a motorcycle jack that I've use for trans, so I'll take a look at what it takes to pull it. It's still driveable, I just can't trust it to pass in a thight spot or do a high speed traffic merge.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL AND THANKS AGAIN FOR THE ADVICE (I kind of thought it needed replacing) |
