Default re Gas gauge

I had asked before about gas gauge on my 88 silverado

it stays at half a tank regardless if the key is on or off.

could it be a fuse? is there a fuse? the gauge or sender? an whats easiest way to figure out which it is, cuz i don't want buy sumthing i don't need.

i have the same problem in my truck(same year) it may be the stepper moter in the gauge itself or the float is bad. check the fuses under the dash and make sure none are bad.
the problem with mine is that the float is bad also the stepper motor went out. what type of guage cluster is it if its the one where the lines get lite up as it goes up or down im not sure of where or how to replace that but im sure a local autoparts store can figure it out or maybe even a junkyard may have those parts for you

instr.cluster fuse is good as i know cuz all other gauges work.

Mite be a dumb question ,but since this is my first silverado, is the gauge suppose to go to empty when key is off then rise to amount of fuel when key is on? or does it just always stay at amount in tank regardless of key postion?
