truck won't move until 1500 rpms

Hey guys i'm new here so i need a little help. I'm looking into a truck that needs some work. It's a '99 Silverado 1500 with 70k miles but it was used to pull a fifth wheel camper which was too much of a load for the half ton pickup. It runs fine but when you put it in drive it won't move until you reach about 1500-2000 rpms. Doesn't have this problem in reverse, however. Also it seems to be stuck in 4x4 and doesn't want to come out or even try. could these be electrical problems or what? i'm welcome to any ideas. thanks

This truck probably has a clutch pack that is toasted. You'll probably need a trans rebuild to fix the drive issue. Does it shift fine after it's in drive and driving?

i figured it would be something along those lines. yes it seems to drive and shift fine after it gets moving, but it's that first time you put it in drive that it has problems

Could be a worn out pump too. A good trans shop should be able to diagnose it without requiring a rebuild. Sounds like it could be a hydraulic issue though.

I agree w/ NullHead. most likely a pump issue. Try changing the fluid first. Cheap repair, before moving on to pump.
