Default Used truck help

I'm looking at a 98 1500 with 223,000 miles on it for 4000 but he said he's negotiable. The truck looks very clean all around and the owner claims it still runs very well but it's a ways away so if I see it in person, it'll have to be a for sure buy to make the trip worth it. Does it have too many miles or is it okay. Btw I'm still in high school and this is my first truck.

I don't know where you are located but the price an mileage sounds a bit high

do you live in a rust belt? if yes, forget about it. anything that old will be full of holes and need brake and fuel lines. if you live in the south or where they don't salt the roads, the body may be ok.

keep looking, the price is to high. be patient and look at a few trucks before you buy anything.

Price is way too high. I bought my 98 with no rust and 125k on it for $3200, and that was in 2010

something that old will need at least 1-2 grand in repairs to fix everything and change all the fluids. and that doing it yourself.

I have bought and fixed many 10 yo + vehicles; documenting all the time and repairs to bring them up to 100%. And my price on parts is 50% of what non-trades people pay. Your gonna have to fix some stuff.

I hate buying tires; so get something with good tires. This is weird to say but this is my observation (big generalization coming up lol); usually, you don't find a good car with worn out tires.
