valve stem size

i have an 07 1500 2-whl drive classic, i would like to know if anyone knows what size the diameter is in the wheel for the valve stems. wheels are 17". i have snooped around at the local parts stores an cant find a definite size i would prefer not to take the wheel off an remove the valve stem to measure the diameter. i have put extensions on the existing stems an some of them leak so im looking to replace with new stems that are the right length.an diameter.

The two most common sizes are .453 and .625 inches. There are other sizes. I don't know which would fit your wheel. A tire store would probably know. You could buy both sizes and return the ones that don't fit. You could also pull the one in your spare tire if it's the same rim and check it.

thanks for your reply. i'm leaning towards the .453 size, cause along time ago i had measured the diameter size but i cant remember for sure the size, old age creeps up. thanks again

For added insurance you could probable coat the opening with a black urethane the aid in the seal

well first i want to say thanks for the replys, but ive given this some serious thought an i got a plan. first im gonna remove a wheel, break the bead pull the valve stem out an measure the diameter of the hole, cause i have to be sure what size the hole is, the closest parts store is 6 miles away an im not walking, so i will put on the spare an go get the right size valve stems. now just an added thought i have used the plastic valve extensions an have had leak problems before, im not sure if the metal ones are good but i know new valve stems the right size an length will work.
