Void Warranty
 

Has anyone heard if bolt-on's such as CAI, or TBS voids factory warranty? I've read on the web that is doesn't, but the service manager at my dealer today told me that it voids the warranty on the engine in GM's eyes, but that they can tell if anything was caused by the bolt on.

no there is a law i believe that says that they cannot void your warrenty for aftermarket parts. i think unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure.

good companies such as K&N stand behind their products.

That's not true. I've worked at two dealerships. If a person modifies they're vehicle in any way that it does not run/operate the way it was designed to, they can void the warranty. Although both of the dealerships I worked at did not excerise this right and usually the technician never even makes mention of it. Although, if the aftermarket part directly causes problems to a warrantied part you can bet your but they won't warranty it. For example, VW's Mass Air Flow sensors are garbage and running anything other than the OEM air intake and regular style filter can cause premature failure. So anyone who came into the VW dealership with a CAI on and had a bad MAF had to pay for a new one(YIKES!). I wouldn't worry about it too much but I would keep it strictly to an intake and exhaust if you like having a warranty.
