What is "backspacing"?

I've read alot of descriptions of guys trucks...suspension info, tire size and that kind of stuff. What I've realized is alot of big trucks have something called "backspacing" and/or "trimmed fenders"...what does this mean???

Backspacing is the distance from the inner edge of the wheel to the hub mount pad. Don't get it confused with wheel offset.
