Question What's this hose for???

Hello! I have a 1996 Silverado (V8, 350). I was checking my oil the other day and I happened to notice some sort of hose that to the eyes of someone without any technical knowledge such as myself, looks like it should be plugged in somewhere. If this hose is supposed to be plugged in, I have no idea how long it's been unplugged.

I took a picture and circled the hose in question. Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like just to the right of where you circled there is a hole in the valve cover. Plug it in there and see if it fits.

Thanks DamnYankee, that worked. After some research it sounds like this hose has to do with emissions control? Would there have been negative ramifications had I not noticed it was unplugged and kept driving? Is this something that is known to just pop out of place?

PCV= positive crankcase ventilation....most noticable would be a massive vacume leak
