Jegs also had a bolt on setup you could order. An old boss of mine had an 85 el camino with a 305 4 speed. We put the Jegs setup on it and it was a blast of a little car. Nothing insane but a real kick in the pants.

The 305's have good low end torque, but the Vortec motors have better heads and valvetrain. Im shifting around 6300 rpm's with no problems at all. Vortecs have more top end power stock.

You might benefit from differential cap with fins on it ... like any of these: Search Results for differential cap - SummitRacing.com

I honestly don't know anything about hot rodding drivetrains, but perhaps a transmission cooler would help keep the tranny healthy while you "hot-dogg" it

Make sure your U-joints are good too.
What would be the benefit of a diff with fins??? I don't know much about that area of things

It would keep the diff fluid cooler than a regular fin-less one. I assume the fins on the cap would help dissipate heat. And I don't imagine axle seals like to be hot. Or the gears that the fluid lubricates. I don't have any backing material to support this, but it's just a thought anyways.
