1989 GMC Truck Ck 1500 4x4 Z71 Reg. Cab stepside TBI ,5.3L i think...haha 489,5XX KM!!!!!!!!!!!! Was on the road until i got it a few months ago. Engine is garbage but still runs..smokes like a fish outta water, not sure if original. Tranny has been rebuild before i got it. Lots of Driveline work has been done which is usual...brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, axle seals, cv shafts, ball joints. New assending unit. Exhaust is chopped off. New exhaust manifolds and are flipped and come out each front fender. Engine has no special mods done to, bone stock other than exhuast and intake. Intake draws air from Firewall, (hole was cut in firewall). Heater and A/C core have been smashed out for Intake. Lots of litle things dont work but it halls butt threw the mud, pulls trucks twice its size out too. Doors Are off a 92 Silverado. Only thing on it that is aftermarket is the Skyjacker Shocks 7000 series, And a Cowl hood that does absolute nothing...Just for looks. I know for a fact that it was on the road until about 488,xxx KM. And as you can guess its a MUD TRUCK now. |
Later 1999 Silverado Z71 5.3 liter Engine

On my '92 Sierra i have somewhere in the neighborhood of 524,000 miles on her. No aftermarket parts. Still running on the same motor and tranny. The '06 Crew cab has just over 44,000 on her and runs like a top. K&N 57-series cold air intake and super 44 duals.

mileage for 96 Silverado
Purchased in 96 with 5 miles on speedo.
Currently-334,400 and going strong Replaced tranny 147,000. Other than premature paint fade this truck is still all there. On fixit (eventually) list- entire front end, brake lines and stuff, shocks, mebbe some rims, mebbe take off the tool box, mebbe a new radio with satellite, replace faded lights front n tail, mebbe new plugs, headers and dual set-up. Other than the tranny, this truck still running strong. Oh yeah, mebbe fix the slight knock, but it only knocks during really cold weather, so if I wait till Spring, the knock will once again go away! |

I know I have posted this to a couple of different people, but this is an old thread and kinda new to this type of communication, so taking the route of the more I contact the better possibility of someone seeing my question.... Thanks in advance.... I have the same exact truck and get 10 at best anywhere I go.....Have done zero mods to truck... but with the price of gas how do I keep driving this thing and not go broke???? |

1988 1/2 Ton Stepside Shortbox 4x4 Silverado - 67k
1 Attachment(s)
My Chevy is a 1988 1/2 Ton Stepside Shortbox 4x4 Silverado with about 67,000 original miles. I purchased it from the original owner, who bought it new at 72 years old and drove until his family took it away at 92. It came with the 350 and every availible option, from what I can see.
I added a constant-on isolater curcuit and a second battery to support the 9,000 lbs winch, mounted on the custom built front bumper with brush guard. There is a 2,000 winch mounted on a tower frame that surrounds the hatch window on the back of my custom built Super hawk canopy. I tightened the torsion bars to make of for the weight of the battery, front bumper and winch. Inside the canopy is found the usual collection of chains and pulleys for recovery operations, as well as a fold-down bunk/bench seat with interior lighting. I've slept back there through many storms. Under the hood I gutted the smog pump and lost the plumbing. I plated over the EGR and replaced the cat with a 3 inch pipe fitted into the flowmaster 3 inch single exhaust. I like dual pipes, but up in the woods single pipes just seem to last longer. Tires are the Les Schwab Tall, Skinny, and Chunky's. It has had Aircraft Landing Lights and 50 watt fog lights on the front and a pair of 50 watt floods on the back. I raised the TBI with a 1 inch swirl block and lifted the injectors with a 1/4 inch kit. I set the ignition at 6 degrees. I am still argueing with my neighbor, and have chosen to retain the original air cleaner housing because they just do a better job and I have no evidence of air flow issues...I can still draw zero inches of vacum at 5 grand, and work mainly in the torque curve up through the late teens and mid twenties. It isn't a drag racer, it's a truck. I just lost my 700R4 yesterday....3rd went out; I still was able to fourwheel out in 1st & 2nd...and have started shopping for a replacement. |
