Wheel help for an old GMC
I have a 79 K2500 and need new tires. I have found that with the current size I am extremely limited. 9.50R16.5 I am thinking I should change the wheels to a more standard size.
So, the question is what years wheels can I use? I just want plain steelies or cheapest possible. Thanks! |
If a 16 inch rim will fit it will give you more options.

If a 16" will fit - and if so what years should I be looking for to try to get some salvage. These are 8 lug hubs, btw. |
Here is one set of 16 inch rims on ebay. Usually a local tire and used rim shop will have something. Take your old rim in and match it on back spacing and center hole size. A 265/75R16 (that a 32 inch tire) is common on the newer trucks so a 7 or 7.5 inch rim width will be OK. You need to make sure it will fit without rubbing anywhere.

SET OF 4 16" 8 lug CHEVY-GMC TRUCK STEEL WHEELS RIMS | eBay |
My sources says if your salvage yard has any Chev 3/4 truck from 1973 to 87 those rims should fit your 8 on 6 1/2" pattern.
Ask them if you can check, before you commit |
you can buy the steel wheels at the tire shop just tell them what you want. steel wheels are not that much
