wrist pins

i'm new here and i'm wondering if somebody can help me with an issue i'm having with my '01 5.3 silverado. the wrist pins that hold the connecting rods to the pistons are loose, causing it to knock for about two mins at startup and then it goes away, problem is it's not under warranty anymore and i really don't want to sell the truck as it's a great looking ride. does anyone know if it's repairable and if so a good estimate of how much it would cost, i'm not expecting it to be cheap as you have to take the engine out etc....or if it is just cheaper to find a rebuilt motor or what a good motor would be to drop in it for a reasonable cost....if there is such a thing.

Wrist pins I never hheard that one before. Anyway most of our trucks do that. Mine dose it to but I think its a just got to get the oil to the top of the motor before it stops the ticking. Another thing is if they were lose the would not stop ticking. In fact I dont think it would make a ticking noise and it wouldnt last long at all.

really? it's a common thing? i heard they have had problems with it for the past 2-3 years and that gm will give you a new motor if it's under warranty, which mine isn't, if it knocks like that for more than two minutes, but if it gets close to five minutes of knocking the motor is ready to salvage pretty much...mine is only around 2-2.5 mins right now but any other opinions would be appreciated as i don't know that much about the issue aside from what i was told.

Mine does it, my neighbor's truck does it (01 Silverado) and my buddies Colorado does it (or something similar). I wouldn't worry too much.

if its your wrist pins you're probably going to get out cheaper to get an engine from jasper installed. unless you have engine experience and can do it yourself. but like the guys above me have said most of our trucks knock on startup a little... mine doesn't do it for more than thirty seconds though and i dont know if i'd call it a real knock...

I dont leave until it stops or it seems to do it longer.

I wouldn't worry honestly. When I run 93 octane thru my truck it doesn't do it at all.
