What is lowbed trailer

A low bed trailer, also known as a lowboy trailer or low loader trailer, is a type of semi-trailer with a deck much closer to the ground than a standard trailer. This design allows for transporting tall and oversized cargo, such as heavy machinery, construction equipment, industrial components, and large vehicles, which wouldn't fit under the overpasses and bridges if transported on a standard trailer.

Low bed trailers typically have two main components:
  1. Gooseneck: The front part of the trailer that extends over the truck's rear axles and connects to the tractor unit. Depending on the trailer's design, the gooseneck can be fixed or detachable. Detachable goosenecks are often used to make it easier to load and unload equipment.
  2. Deck: The deck of the lowbed trailer is much lower to the ground than that of a standard flatbed trailer. This low deck allows for the transportation of tall and heavy loads. The deck may have multiple axles and wheels to distribute the weight evenly and provide stability.
Low bed trailers come in various configurations, including fixed, mechanical (hydraulic or manual) detachable goosenecks and extendable decks to accommodate different types of cargo. They are commonly used in industries like construction, agriculture, mining, and manufacturing, where transporting oversized and heavy items is a regular requirement. These trailers make it possible to move large equipment efficiently and safely while complying with road regulations regarding height restrictions.
