aftermarket lag on new engines?
 

I recently bought a new Dakota SXT 4x4 Club Cab. It has the new 3.7 L V6. I've found that there's a significant lack of performance and aftermarket parts for it. How long does it usually take manufacturers to come out with products on a new engine or model revision? I'm talkin headers, exhaust, CAI, etc.</P>


I realize that the base V6 will never have the selection of accessories that the V8s have, but there seems to be nothing out there... Anything that could squeeze some more low-end torque out of the motor or bump up my gas mileage a bit would be awelcome sight.</P>

well it can take anywhere from 6 months, to 2-3 years. the 4.7l has been out since 2000 and there are still very few companies making performance engine upgrades.

unfortunatly its all up to demand. if the companies see that the 3.7l becomes a popular motor you might get lucky, but i doubt it. most of the market is saturated with 4cylinder import motors.

im not familiar with much of the 3.7l but i do know that it shares alot with the 4.7l, basicaly a 4.7l with the front 2 cylinders hacked off.

best things you can start with is freeing up the exhaust and intake. at the least check on the exhaust, look for where the last 02 sensor is on the exhaust, usually on the dodges after that there is either a exhaust resonator or another catylitic converter, just cut them right out and slip on a straight pipe to replace them, it will free up the exhaust noticably and make a change in the exhaust note. or you could always just cut everything off and run straight pipes with no muffler like me.

for the intake try to remove the reonator chamber that is usualy in the fender well or right under the filter, these restrict the hell out of the intake. if you have the skils, try to make a short ram intake setup itll help alot.
