DAKOTA SLAM?????

Ok, I have a 96 Dakota 4x4 with the v8 on a 3inch lift. The kid I got it from says it has the dakota slam. It's done it for two years he says...Kinda ****ty if you ask me, I don't like it. It slams into either drive or reverse, and there is a clunk noise when I lift my foot off the gas and put it back down, kinda like somethings not ingaging for a split second..any Idea's, I would like to fix it..

RE: DAKOTA SLAM?????

probably the rear-end. my silverado does the same thing, lol except for the slamming.
but it sounds like a rear-end differential yoke needed to be replaced.
supposedly in a silverado its supposed to be replaced every 70k miles. mine was replaced at 80k, but now theres about 154k on it.
