Default '98 Dodge Ram Differential

Hi all, got my first Ram but found a few problems while servicing the rear differential. The carrier needs to be removed to install a new shim but the problem is that the carrier refuses to come out. Yes we have the axles, carrier pin, and carrier caps removed. The thing is just in there really tight. We've tried prying, using a come along and a few other tricks and this thing just refuses to come out. So I guess what im askin is if any of you have a trick to get these things out. Dont know if it helps but the truck is a 4x4 SLT Laramie. Thanks in advance.
