Decreased Mileage After Engine Replaced
 

A couple months ago, I ran my 1500 through a water hole that turned out to be deeper than it looked and sucked some water up through the Spectre air filter and into the engine, ultimately bending a rod. The Dodge dealership replaced it with a recycled engine that had half the miles on it compared to mine (35000 to my 70000).

Anyway, I drove the truck for a couple days and the check engine light came on. The scan tool showed 2 codes, one for the EGR valve and one for high input at the IAT sensor. I replaced the EGR valve but not the sensor and cleared the codes. The light hasn't come back on, but since I've gotten it back it seems like my mileage has decreased quite a bit. What could be causing this? If somehow the air/fuel ratio got messed up, wouldnt the engine light come on if it was running too rich?

I would verify that the dealer changed the plugs and wires on the replacement motor. Also this model truck and engine like champions plugs and Mopar wires for improved MPG. I can tell you from personal experience that the performance spark plugs do not perform well on a dodge motor. The truck will run fine but kills the MPG for some reason. This would be a cheap check.

I agree with your information and moreover,just increase gas mileage as they let the engine breathe better.

yes go with the plug and wires just pull the plugs and look to see if they are fouled make sure that they are gapped to the right spec . and make sure they are the right plug for your truck .if the the spark plugs are overly dirty which u will see , make sure they are also in the right heat range .

Kindly check the connector on the cable located between the gas & brake pedals. Do engine compression test, will give you a diagnosis.
