Thirsty Truck....Table for One
 

I am the proud owner of an 01 Ram 1500 extended cab. It's 4X4 with the Off Road Package, which I believe has 4:11 gears in the rear end, and it has the 360. I put "cat-back" dual exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler on thinking this coupled with the K&N filter kit would help it "breathe" better, thus improving the gas mileage, and it seems to have done everything but. Oh yeah, I don't suppose the 33" Goodyears help much either. Looking for suggestions on improving the gas mileage by even the slightest bit. Right now I'm getting 10.5 mpg and with the gate down I'm getting 11. I don't want to get rid of her, but I don't want to get rid of all my money to keep her rockin' down the highway. Please Help.

I have the same truck with larger tires. I tend to drive softer these days and I get better performance and mileage with the highest octane available. The truck does weigh over 6000 pounds so expect average mileage. Keep the average things up to date ; oil changes, plugs, good air filter. I have a high mileage truck (over 135,000 miles)

wow..we have a 360 ram, modded, and i think that it gets better than 10mpg...are you driving it hard? how about a cover for the bed?

so in order to get better gas mileage...you bought a cat back and a cold intake kit? how much gas could you have bought with all the money it took for that? just commenting because i tried the same thing...then realized that anything i did to my truck wasnt going to make a huge difference, which is what we all want...when we buy exhaust, we put our feet into it to hear it, when we buy a cold intake kit, we floor it to see if we can tell the difference, and when we put bigger wheels and tires on our trucks, we cancel out any kind of horse power that we MIGHT have added. with that said, i would really suggest that you what how you drive it. i'm not saying you're a speed demon. i have a 5.3 liter chevy 1/2 ton, and it takes 26 gallons to fill her up. when i accelerate, well, not hard, but fast, and drive 80 on the freeway, i get about 380 miles to the tank. but, when i baby her off the line and cruise at 65 (and i tried both) i get almost 420 miles!!! thats almost 40 miles more!!! doesnt sound realistic, but why would i lie?

I have a supercharged 360 a lift huge tires and get around 11mpg.
