Default What to pay?

Hi All,

As noted in the new members thread, I am new to this forum, the USA and pick up's in general! I have lived here for a year now and had use of my father in law's 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn, a truck I like very much. Next year I want to get a 14ft or so cargo trailer for my hobby and ideally would like a pickup to pull it.

I'm a car nut but having lived in the UK until last year, my knowledge of pickups is limited. At present my preference is either a Silverado (I like the post 14 shape) or a post 2009 RAM with the latter being more likely. I don't want something with all the bells and whistles but my wish list is:

V8
1500
Quad cab (not a crew cab)
Towing package including brake controller
Bluetooth

Now for the RAM, I've been told the Big Horn is the model with the towing package? Is that right? I've looked at a few and only some have the brake controller.

Now; onto prices. My FIL bought his 2013 Big Horn Quad Cab from a dealership in Idaho new for about $31k. I looked up the same dealer recently and they still have those models in that range (nearer $32k now). Firstly; used trucks even 3-4 years old seem to be in the high 20's/low 30's so I don't get why used trucks seem to be very near new prices? Secondly, I've looked around and have yet to find another dealer that can get within $5k of the dealership I looked at. I'll be moving to Indiana soon so buying from Idaho isn't really an option but I'm debating what to do. Is it unreasonable to find a new shape RAM (Preferably 2013 onwards) with no more than 50,000 miles in the low $20k's? Or if not, are there any dealers in the midwest with competitive new pricing?

Feel free to clarify any questions and thanks in advance.

I just bought a Ram and went through the agonizing shopping and buying process. Ram BY FAR (from my research) will lend the most bang for your buck. These trucks won't shy away from towing either. I have a 1500 bighorn 2019 v8 with a class III (standard) hitch and it can safely tow 8,000 lbs. https://www.ramtrucks.com/towing-guide.html I bought it with 20K miles for $29,400. I was told by a few friends I practically stole it. Mine does not have a brake controller, that may require the laramie package.

I would say you could easily get $26 for a 2016 bighorn I found a few in my area, in MS. It's worth the drive for a good deal! I used autotrader, carfax, and copilot to hunt for trucks. Good luck!
