Default ut How do I change the front u joints

How do I change the front u joints on my dodge ram 1997 1500 4x4 ? I have the rotors off and the wheel also the middle nut and pin. I would like to put in greasable u joints and also new rotors and pads. My problem is I can not fiquire out hot to remove the axle on either side. I think they should slide out but I am not sure. Can anyone help or show me a thread that disscuss this. Ed

Default RE: ut How do I change the front u joints

hey to change them u need to take the three bolts out of the wheel bearing, they heads will are on the opposite side of the wheel bearing. the are a 9/16 12 point size. i just did mine and they told me to loosen those bolts out and hit them in to push out the wheel bearing . i used a sledge hammer and a chisel to back it off. i dented the brake dust shieldsbut you can bend them back as soon as you get the loose you will be able to slide the whole shaft right out and change the u joint , kinda of a pain in the *** but its not that back. hope this helps
