What Happens To A Dodge Windshield When It Gets Hit By A Piece Of 3/4" Plywood

Just thought I would share a couple of pics from last week at work.

Was up in Prudoe bay, and got stuck I got stuck in what we call a phase 3. Phase 3 means that we can not see more then 50 feet because of how much snow is blowing, that the winds are blowing over 50 MPH, and that we can not leave camp without a heavy equipment escort, and that is only for emergency's.

Problem was, I headed to the job sight in a phase 1 (viability limited to 200 feet, and wejust have to drive slower), but it quickly turned to a phase two, and then a three and i got stuck in it.

Anyway, I'll quit boring everyone, and get to the main story.

Driving back, I had to feel the edge of the road with the tires, because I couldn't see anything at all. I would let the truck drift at a idle till it started to get pulled off the road at the shoulder, and then I would yank it back to the left, and so on and so on, making very slow progress back to camp.

Here is a pic of the visibility.

So, anyway, as I was driving back to camp, all the sudden, BAM, through my windshield crashes a piece of 4x8 3/4" plywood that was just blowing across the tundra at 50 MPH. Busted the windshield, bent the hood, broke the grill, bent the radiator mount, and the hinge for the hood. Over $1300 in damage.

So this year, watch for flying plywood. it's out to get you.

Geeze !!! I was driving down Hwy 11 and I lost a sheet of 4x8 x 3/4 plywood.
The wind caught it and when I went back I couldn't find it. So that's were it landed, in Alaska. :)

I'm just kidding
Glad to hear it didn't end up IN the cab. Thank goodness you didn't get hurt

Lol, that't at $4,800 fine Glenn, I wouldn't talk about it too much if i was you ;)

And yea, it was one of those days I was glad they make us wear safety glasses when driving at all times. There was glass everywhere inside the cab. I'm glad it didn't make it any further then it did.

This was a company work truck, so I doubt they will even fix it. Even though the truck only has 30 thousand miles, its a 97 and you just don't see trucks that old on the slope much anymore, so I imagine they will just send it to auction and get a new one.

AAAAHHHHH that is rough brother! Was everyone alright? You're not the only one payin for replacement. I had to replace two tires on my suburban this weekend, i had between the two of them, 4 nails that i found. Strange thing is i know i haven't followed a roofing truck anytime soon. Last few nights before it happened my mirrors have been pointing to the sky. i'm beginning to think the little punks from next door are getting high and screwing with my vehicle as they pass thru my yard. Does anyone know of a good non flash trail camera with night vision that doesnt break the bank? i would just like to know who's doin it ya know
