1986 F150 300-6 Problems Carb

Have a problem. I bought F150 300-6cyl 1986 and had carburetor worked on. Things have gone downhill since then. I bought some tools and trying to go beyond oil change work. Truck has a lot of vacuum lines leading to a series of valves on rear of valve-cover. From these vacuum lines to the distributor is a bunch of electrical wires. Is it possible to use some sort of off-road technology to change the carburetor and distributor so that this mess of vacuum lines and wires between the carburetor and distributor are no longer around. It seems that other older Ford pickups had the ignition module on the fender where this entire unit seems to have all wires going to a small attachment on the distributor.
