1988 F150 good and bad

Hey all,

New member here and also potential truck owner.

I have never owned a truck before, but I`m pretty handy at body work and mechanics. I fancy buying an old truck and fixing her up in my garage.

I have the opportunity to buy an 1988 F150 for a couple hundred bucks. I went to look at it last night, the body is ok, better than I expected for a 20 year old truck! The motor runs well, fired up immediately (it`s the straight 6), seems to drive ok too.

Then I noticed the ugly stick, it`s a standard tranmission. Now it doesn`t bother me driving a standard, I lived in Europe for a while, but I`ve never driven a standard truck!

Anyways, I know next to nothing abouts trucks. I would appreciate some good and bad points about this particular model and year of truck?

Thanks.

Hey I'm new here but I know alot about trucks. So You might get an F-150. If You do get the truck the good thing about a stick is that you can get better towing miles if you ever pull a trailor behind you. Also having the Straight six is good because the are so much easier to work on. I have a 88' F-250 with a 302 liter and I love it. mine is sitting on 34 inch mickey thompson's and its stick (standard). I use mine to go hunting and fishing and it gets me around great. and everything on that truck you might get is so easy to fix. Just post again if you have any problems.
