anyone hauled some heavy loads with a 300 straight 6?

Used to have a 95 f150 with a 300 6 cyl and a 5 speed. I hauled firewood with it. One day I filled the truck up to the roof with fresh, green post oak fire wood. Ran it across the scale and found out I had 3 1/2 tons in the bed of that truck. Just hauled it around the farm so I wasn't goin fast or on any roads. I know this is WAY over the rating and someones gonna call me an idiot, but the truck pulled it just fine! The back bumper was nearly draggin the ground but it pulled that load. Just wonderin if anyone else had any stories to tell about hauling with their 300 straight 6. That's a dang good engine.

The only 300 straight 6 that I ever drove, was in a '68 Ford pickup with a granny box. I pulled a tandem axle trailer to pick up firewood in the Sierras. I loaded the trailer heavy for the ride back to Woodland, CA. and yes, that 6 never whimpered!

I also remember pulling a winnebago rv on a regular tow dolly up some serious hills with that truck. Had to put it in 4th but that was it. I think a v8 would've had to got in 3rd to do that. Not sure what grade the hills were, but they were HUGE. The only problem was slowing down on the way down them hills.

Ive owned 3 F-150s the 1st one was a 84 model, had the 6 in it, 3 speed trans, didnt haul anything real heavy...
2nd one was a 95 model, 4wd, 5 speed, long bed, hauled 1 1/2 ton of gravel in it....bumper was almost on the ground..
3rd was my last one had a 89 model, 4wd, 4 speed trans, had the 6 in it, short bed truck, didnt haul anything heavy in it due to the shape of the frame...got good service from them.

And as for the 300...OH YEA, Wood, hay, gravel, water, I used the back bumper of my 1980 extended cab 4wd as a snow blade a few times cuzz it was so loaded, never ever even whimpered, not even after 780,000 miles.

The 300 six will pull rings around the 302 v8.
The 300 is a slow reving engine and not very fast not much horse power, but it`s a torque monster.
Practically a tractor engine.
The 300 I think was the best engine in a Ford truck if you didn`t spend most of your time on the highway. I`d take it over the 302 anyday. I owned both.
I think it was the best six cylinder truck of it`s time.
I`d put up against the 351 Windsor but not the Cleveland.

I forgot to mention the older UPS (big brown) trucks were powered by the 300.

Ford actually put the 300 in several on their tractors.
