fan clutch into radiator help!!!
 

Ok i recently bought a 91 F150 custom 4.9 Efi. the second day i had it i was powerbraking in sand and my fan clutch went into my radiator. So i assumed it was the motor mounts, i replaced the motor mounts and put a new radiator in. I let the truck idle for about 30 min. to check for leaks or anything odd. On my way to work drove fine till i pulled into the parking lot and again my fan clutch went into my new radiator. Any help would be appreciated, i checked the radiator sleeves and they are solid. I havent been able to really look at it since i parked it but could the fan clutch maybe have backed off? Please help this is my daily driver and cant afford to keep replacing radiators.

Check your water pump it's allowing your fan clutch to smash into your radiator, check your bolts on the water pump. They may be stripped and coming loose.

well i checked the fan clutch at the parts store and it waswider than the one ihad on it so i got the one they had it lasted for a month and it happened again a week ago. So i am planning on putting an electric fan on it and doing away with the fan and clutch.My fan clutch is only like a quarter of a inch from my rad.Ill chech that out but if it was moving wouldnti have a leak from the water pump? It has only done it when i get on the gas hard. Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Hey prescott i have an I6 to with the clutch fan to. note to engauge the fan you have hit 2,200 rpm. i'm pulling it and putting a flex fan on less stress on the I6. P.S. don't use an electric fan if it fails it'll cost you.

Have you checked the tranny mount? If it is hitting under a load the torque from the rearend may be flexing the assembly at the transmission mount, causing the engine to "twist" enough to allow the clutch to hit the radiator....just an idea...
