Hi I have a 1993 F150 ext cab 5.8L V8 and I am getting 33's on it. How much of a powe loss will I notice?


What would be some of the easiest mods for me to make a 1993 Ford F150 ext cab 5.8L V8 A) Sound better and to B) to give it more hp?

How much of a power decrease will I notcie do you think with putting on 33's? Where do I get the speedometer re-calobrated? I wanted to add some simple stuff to gain power and of course also make it sound better for the loss of power that I will be getting with bigger tires.

You won't notice much power differance in day to day driving. You'll actually feel like the truck is pulling easier when trailored or loaded. You may notice a bit better gas milage. One thing you'll want to make note of is the spedometer differances. Now I've heard people say on newer trucks, it don't matter what size tires you have, but in case that's false. The large tire you have, the more HP it takes to make it roll. Once it's rolling, it stays rolling for less HP. It also rolls faster than the smaller tires. This means your truck will be going 35+ when the spedo says you're doing 30.

As far as sound and performance, depending on what's on the truck you might not want to do anything to it. Going a little smaller, or adding a bit of back preassure (NOT a lot) will give you a bit of an increase. Larger tips will make it sound beefier. I'd look into something with dual pipes out the back, but with an X or H between the front and back. basically, you run larger or stock pipes back to the catolytic converter, than from that you run the same size back to a t thats smaller. Run the smaller pipe off the T and down each side of the truck, and tip with oversized tips. If you're building a mudder, you'll want to just go straight up with em, cut out the cat and mufflers and replace with a restriction pipe. Unless you're into rebuilding engine internals every 10 hours, the last thing I would do is run straight pipes with no restriction what so ever.

Basically, put the tires on, drive by one of those street side speed checks a few times, and go see an exhaust specialist.
