2004 F350 Diesel (6.0) - a good engine?

this week (thursday) I will be buying my first "big" truck. it is a 2004 F350 XLT crew cab, diesel (6.0), LWB, with a 6 speed manual and 54,000 miles, in very good condition.

I am very excited however, some good friends (who are also very knowlegable people) told me that Ford has had many problems with the 6.0 diesel and that they have already put a new diesel out (6.4?). also, that normally Ford will go up to 10 years with a design and this 6.0 is only 3 years old and they have already re-designed it.

is anyone aware of such info?

anything I should be aware of or, to look for?

also, how big a difference (rpm) when traveling 75mph in regards to the rear end having
3.7 or 4.11 gearing?

thanks for any advice or information.

The 6.0 is crap it's got decent power but it'll fall apart for anything buy and old bulet proof 7.3 or see how the new 6.4s do

Not a ford guy, but had a 7.3 powerstorke, and a 6.0 for work, and I do have to say 6.0 is stong but I would buy a 7.3 with 200k, before I bought a new 6.0.
