My warranties just recently expired, and now numerous problems are occuring. Go figure...! Any way, it has just over 70,000 miles on it, we have never towed anything with it. Since last fall, intermittantly, we notice white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. It is slowly becoming more frequent. We haven't noticed any trends as to when it does smoke, day, night, morning start up or after running all day? What might the cause be? Also have had a problem with the gasket leaking where the transmission and the oil pan meet. Dealer has suggested maybe a mating problem? Also front axle seal where axle goes into front differential is leaking. Haven't done any heavy duty 4X4ing, etc. We have had the vehicle in every 5000 miles for the routine maintenance as reccomended by Ford. This all seems to be abnormal for no more mileage than it has on it. Is this a problem/trend with the f250's? We are considering whether or not to sell it and get something more reliable. Any input would be appreciated...!

 

I had the same problem with white smoke blowing out of the exhaust. Mine got so bad that water was actually pouring out of my muffler. I took it in to Ford and they had to replace the intercooler and all of the seals with it. Thankfully it was still under warranty. I (as well as three others I know) had my rear main seal go out at 34,000 miles. the 05 6.0 liter Ford was natorious for having rear main seals go out. Hopfully this helps. Good luck!

 

The 2 main problem area's I have heard about on the Ford 6.0 diesels are the EGR Coolers and the Head Gaskets - both will cause a smoking issue. The EGR is the cheaper/easier of the two.

 

Shamrock is right, I misspoke. The problem I had was with the EGR cooler. Sorry. But thankfully I have not had any problems with the head gaskets yet......knock on wood.

 

for power wise do these 6.0 diesels match the newer 6.4?

 

I actually own both a 2006 6.0 and a 2010 6.4. I tow a 30ft gooseneck horse trailer with both and to be honest the power in the 6.4 is no greater than that of the 6.0.

 

Keep your fluids at the appropriate level and change them at the recommended intervals to reduce leaks and maintenance issues. Use the proper types of fluids as well. The wrong transmission fluid can cause your gears to stick and wear down, while the wrong oil can reduce lubrication on the engine and cause internal damage. Improper mixture or wrong type of antifreeze can cause overheating. Consult your own manual or a professional for your vehicle's specifics.
