newbie question-'06 F250 6.0 Turbo diesel

We are looking at buying a used truck for towing a new trailer. Won't use it for much else. Trailer will be about 6100#. Anyway, we found a 06 F250 6.0 turbo diesel with 91,502 for $23K. Would this be a stupid move to buy this or is there a lot of life left in it? Sorry, I know nothing about trucks.

I would be real leery of the 6.0 diesels. They have a very bad reputation.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know. Saved me some $$$$ I am sure.:)

I happen to own an 06' 6.0 with 147000 on it, she runs great, pulls strong not to say we havent had our share of problems. Look into the vehicles history and see if it has had any major repairs done. Main thing to look for is injectors, turbo, egr valve. Or possibly opt for an extended warranty. For 6100lb trailer a newer f150 would suit you needs if you plan to pull everyonce in awhile, unless you plan to pull this trailer everyday.

Don't get me wrong they pull like a bear and definitely are great looking trucks. They are, however, notorious for the head bolts stretching and gasket blowing. I am in the business and I see them go through the auction all the time smoking up a storm. There is a local shop that has turned 90% of their business fixing these trucks and he stays swamped. He is doing one for a friend of mine right now. They pull the whole cab off the frame to do it. He is paying $2000 for the job. This is after he took it elsewhere and they told him it was an injector and hit him for $600 (I think). Do a search for 6.0 issues on google and you can read till you go blind. Now to their defense the local repair guy says the majority of the ones he does have had power adders (tuners, etc.) installed. His opinion is the factory head bolts are a weak link anyway and with the big power increase with the tuners they just don't stand a chance. He says with ARP bolts added they should be better and hasn't had one come back. That's the word around here anyway.
