Please help my 1989 f-250 7.5L sound the way it should!!

Hi guys, I just bought a 1989 F-250 XLT Lariat with Ext Cab and Long Bed. I absolutely love the truck, and I bought it with only 61k miles, but while the engine runs strong, I have a couple of questions about how I could tweak it a bit. For starters, it has kind of that old fashioned chugging sound, it's hard to describe but there is definitely a patter that begins to sound like ticking during hard acceleration, which I thought maybe could possibly be sticky lifters. What I would really like to know is what I can do to this engine to give it that deep, muscular growl that i feel like a 460 big block should have? Also, it seems like the engine is optimized for towing, and I was wondering if there is a way to tune the engine to increase power and acceleration instead of towing capacity? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Sounds like you need to order a custom tune from Black Bear performance. Read up on a few topics other reputable members have started along this subject. If I had the money I would do so.

My truck did the ticking thing during acceleration until I put the new exhaust on it. Now it either has stopped or my new exhaust is too loud to hear it :D
